At least 1 million Washington residents have private wells or use smaller water suppliers, called \u201cGroup B\u201d systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Safe Drinking Water Act doesn\u2019t protect these wells, some of which are near Harrington Lagoon. Those wells also likely have PFAS contamination, Lovie said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey\u2019re not eligible for any of the loans or grants that Group A water systems can get to take care of these problems,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re not subject to requirements for testing for PFAS.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lovie and officials with Ecology \u2014 who have been tracking PFAS for years \u2014 said the EPA\u2019s rule is a milestone in addressing drinking water contamination.
